26 Jul NCCN acknowledges passing of Dr Margaret Lewis
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the recent passing of Dr Margaret Lewis. Margaret was an outstanding Wellington Paedatrician with expertise in Paediatric Oncology, and also a Senior Lecturer in the Otago Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. Sadly her career was cut short due to ill health some years ago. From an NCCN perspective we are extremely grateful for her determination to assemble a child cancer registry (from the late 1970s) with the naming of the pre-2000 entries fondly known as the “Margaret Lewis data set”. The infrastructure necessary to support this work was funded by a grant from Child Cancer Foundation, which recognised the central importance to its goals of an accurate diagnostic and demographic data collection.
NCCN Research Lead Gemma Pugh talks more about the Margaret Lewis data set and how we plan to utilise this rich information source in her NZCCR update here.
Rest in peace Margaret.
