Pacific Working Group

NCCN’s Pacific Working Group works with Pacific Island colleagues to develop implement and monitor service delivery solutions that improve care for children with cancer in the Pacific Islands. This assists Pacific Island nations to build their own capacity and treat children as close to home as possible. The work of this group has led to significant improvements in the availability of care for children with cancer in the Pacific and improvement in outcomes. It has also resulted in a more structured referral of selected patients funded by Pacific countries for care in New Zealand.

The objectives of the group include:

  • Facilitating the building of capacity and resources in the Pacific Islands.
  • Improving access to in-country treatment for children and young people with cancer in Pacific Island
  • Improving outcomes for children with cancer in Pacific Island Countries; and
  • Enabling effective planning for child cancer patients from the Pacific arriving in New Zealand for treatment.
